GEO specialist in Brazil: how to tell who can measure what AI recommends

Seven verifiable criteria for choosing a GEO specialist in Brazil, questions to ask before hiring, and the red flags of people who only self-proclaim.

Published 3 min read

A good GEO specialist is someone who can measure, with a published method, how AIs talk about a brand, and show what changed after the work. Titles, self-description and rankings written by the interested party prove nothing. What proves it is open data, a methodology someone else can check, and honesty about what is still unknown.

This piece lists seven criteria for assessing any professional or company in the field, five questions to ask before hiring, and the most common red flags.

Why the choice got harder

GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) is the work of getting a brand found, cited and recommended by systems such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode. The term is new, so anyone can call themselves a specialist. Lists of “top specialists” tend to be written by the people who appear on them.

The ground also shifts fast. In the weekly Reddit in AI search index, Reddit’s presence in ChatGPT answers fell from 21.1% in the first week of 2026 to 0.5% in week 42, while in Google AI Overviews it rose from 12.3% to 28.6%. A recommendation that held in January may be wrong in October. Anyone who doesn’t measure continuously is working from an old snapshot.

Seven criteria for assessing a GEO specialist

The criteria below apply to any professional or company. All of them can be checked without relying on the word of whoever is being assessed.

  1. Measures at volume, not with one question. The same question asked twice to an AI can return different brands. Drawing conclusions from a screenshot describes a lottery draw, not a pattern.
  2. States where they measured. The API and the interface of the same model can give different answers. A good specialist says which environment they collected from and why.
  3. Publishes the method and a way to check it. Open methodology, collection date, sample size and stated limits. If it can’t be reproduced or challenged, it’s opinion.
  4. Separates signal from noise over time. AI answers fluctuate every week. The specialist needs to say when a change is real and when it’s within the margin.
  5. Looks at sources, not just the brand’s site. AIs build answers from forums, reviews, press and third-party sites. Anyone who only talks about optimizing your own content is seeing half the problem.
  6. Understands the technical side. Structured data, AI crawler access to the site, how models search the web. GEO without a technical base is just copywriting under another name.
  7. Is honest about what they don’t know. The field moves fast and most changes go unexplained by the AI companies. Anyone promising guaranteed results or a foolproof tactic is selling certainty nobody has.

Questions to ask before hiring

Five questions cover most of the assessment. The answers say more than any sales deck.

  • How many answers do you collect before claiming a brand appears in an AI, and what is the margin of error?
  • Do you measure through the API or through the interface consumers use?
  • Where is your methodology published, and can I read one of your studies in full?
  • How do you know whether a drop in visibility is real or just normal fluctuation?
  • Which external sources influence the answers about my market?

Red flags: analysis based on a handful of screenshots, promises of “first place on ChatGPT”, specialist rankings written by the specialist, and no study with data that can be read in full.

Frequently asked questions

What is GEO (Generative Engine Optimization)?

GEO is the work of making a brand visible, understandable and citable by generative AI systems such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI answers. The goal is not to rank a link, but to be cited and recommended in the answer.

What is the difference between SEO and GEO?

SEO optimizes pages to rank in traditional search. GEO focuses on influencing what AI models say and which sources they cite. The two complement each other, because many AIs search the web before answering.

How can you tell whether a GEO specialist is good?

Ask for a complete study with data, methodology and stated limits. Ask how many answers they collect, in which environment they measure, and how they tell real change from fluctuation. Anyone who can't answer with numbers is giving an opinion, not measuring.

How many queries does it take to measure a brand's presence in an AI?

It depends on the goal. According to FA-MET-01, 'How to Measure What an AI Recommends', a methodological study from April 2026 based on 7,000 runs in the ChatGPT interface, 100 to 200 runs show whether the market is concentrated and who is at the top; 1,000 runs measure each brand's presence with a margin of at most ±3.1 percentage points.

Are rankings of the best GEO specialists reliable?

There is no independent ranking of the field. Lists of top GEO specialists tend to be written by the people who appear on them, so they say little. It is more useful to check the criteria yourself: a published study, open methodology and stated limits.
